Dallas Burston Polo Club

Building work on a new £1.5million restaurant and bar at the Dallas Burston Polo Club in Southam is expected to finish next month.

Following months of construction work carried out by Northampton-based firm Goodfellows, the new Player’s Pavilion will officially open to the public in July – creating around 20 new jobs for the local area.

It marks the first phase of an ambitious £122 million investment announced last year by IXL Events Ltd – the owners of the venue – which will see the 600-acre site transformed into a popular holiday destination.

When it opens, the new pavilion will feature an impressive bar area, a restaurant and a private dining area on the second floor. Visitors will also have access to viewing terraces on both sides of the pavilion to watch the polo games.

A recruitment drive has been launched this week for a number of key roles including chefs and kitchen staff as well as bartenders and waiting staff, with bosses keen to fill as many vacancies as possible with local people.

General Manager Major Richard Carney MBE said: “We are very excited about the opening of the new pavilion. This has been in the pipeline for quite some time, so it’s fantastic to see the work almost complete.

“We have worked hard and taken great care to ensure that this impressive venue complements the already existing facilities within our impressive grounds at Southam. We are confident that once it is finished, the new Player’s Pavilion will prove to be a popular facility for the local community.”

The new pavilion is the first phase of a 12-year plan for the site, which will also include luxury lodges and an impressive hotel, which will have in excess of 100 bedrooms.

The £122 million development will create hundreds of skilled and unskilled jobs for the region by 2025 as well as helping to increase footfall to a range of established businesses across Warwickshire.

“The pavilion marks the start of an incredibly exciting time for the Dallas Burston Polo Club,” added Major Carney. “With the opening of the new pavilion, we are one step closer to transforming this site into a top attraction, which will not only benefit us as a business but the region as a whole.”

IXL Events at the Dallas Burston Polo Club encompasses 600-acres of indoor and outdoor event space. The grounds are home to the IXL Events Centre, six polo grounds, wedding venues, the 2.4-acre all-weather SuperArena and the colonial Clubhouse.

The site hosts a number of polo matches, tournaments and events throughout the year, including the popular annual Ladies Day which takes place on June 26th.
